PCPPA 2017 Annual Print Competition

Each year Pierce County Professional Photography Association (PCPPA) gathers to host our annual print competition. This year featured 17 submitted photographs and one album submission, from current PCPPA members. Print competition offers our members a great opportunity to receive valuable feedback on some of their best images, and is a great competition to enter for first time entrants. Because the print competition is for members only, it allows plenty of time for judge feedback and comments, giving our members a unique opportunity for useful feedback and print competition experience.

PCPPA follows the Image Scoring System as set forth by the national organization, Professional Photographers of America (PPA). Each images is scored by the three print competition judges, the scores are combined and a final average score is given. Each photograph is then open for comments from the judging panel. A Merit Image Award is given if the photograph earns an score of 80 points or higher. There are five submission categories for PCPPA print competition: Wedding, Portrait, Commercial, Unclassified, and Album.

The panel of judges look for:

  • Technical excellence, creativity, style and composition
  • Presentation, color balance and center of interest
  • Lighting and subject matter
  • Technique, and Story-telling

Each photograph is scored by selecting the grade level of the image and then awarded a corresponding score by each member of the judging panel. This year we were honored to host the following guest print competition judges:

  • Marie Martineau-Sandberg, M. Photog, CR, CPP, FP – Timeless Memories Photography
  • Kari Stucky – Studio K Portraits
  • Tiffany Burke – Tiffany Burke Photography

PCPPA would like to offer our thanks and graditude for their participation in this years annual print competition. We would also like to thank the following PCPPA members for the dedication and hard work at helping put on this event: Tonya Jackson, Lorie Weldon, James Burrill, and Joni Atkinson.
